President Trump Says He Will Veto Bill Blocking Emergency Declaration

President Trump Attends Friends Of Ireland Luncheon At U.S. Capitol

President Donald Trump did not mince words after 12 Republican senators rebuked him by voting in favor of a bill rejecting his emergency order to secure billions of dollars to fund the construction of a section of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. The bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 245-182 last month and now heads to Trump's desk following a 59-41 vote in the Senate.

Trump declared he would "VETO" the bill on Twitter minutes after the Senate vote.

He followed up in a second tweet saying that he was looking "forward to VETOING the just passed Democrat inspired Resolution."

I look forward to VETOING the just passed Democrat inspired Resolution which would OPEN BORDERS while increasing Crime, Drugs, and Trafficking in our Country. I thank all of the Strong Republicans who voted to support Border Security and our desperately needed WALL!

Republican Senators Mike Lee, Rob Portman, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Lamar Alexander, Roger Wicker, Roy Blunt, Jerry Moran, Pat Toomey, and Mitt Romney all voted in favor of the bill.

It will be the first time that Trump will veto a bill as president. Neither the House nor the Senate has the votes necessary to override his veto.
