Senate Starts Debate On Immigration Reform

The Senate is starting to tackle the issue of immigration reform.  After the 97-to-one vote, Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa joined other Republicans to introduce what he calls a "generous and compassionate" plan to fix the immigration issue.  He said it provides a solution for people who were brought to the country illegally when they were children.  Senator Grassley said it gives them an opportunity for citizenship.  He pointed out that the proposal also takes meaningful steps to make sure the problem doesn't happen again, and that involves border security.

Grassley said he hoped Democratic senators don't refuse to compromise in order to make it an issue for the upcoming election.
