Republican National Committee Cuts off Funding to Roy Moore's Campaign

The Republican National Committee has withdrawn its support for Alabama Senate Candidate Roy Moore according to a report from Politico. They join the National Republican Senatorial Committee which ended its relationship with Moore's campaign on Friday after the Washington Post reported the Senate candidate initiated a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl.

This move by the RNC means the national party will no longer transfer any money to Moore's race, nor assist him with his fundraising efforts. The Alabama Republican Party is now the only GOP organization still participating in Moore's fundraising efforts.

In additional to ending their financial relationship, the RNC has also cancelled a field program for volunteers it set up ahead of the election scheduled for December.

Allegations against Moore have intensified in recent days, after a second woman came forward on Monday saying that the Alabama Senate candidate assaulted her when she was only 15-years-old. Moore denied the new allegations, saying that he will remain in the race.

Several prominent Republican leaders have been urging Moore to step aside. The Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, said that he had 'no reason to doubt' the women who have come forward. Ryan said that Moore should 'step aside' if Moore really cared about the values and people he claimed to represent.

“The person who should step aside is @SenateMajLdr Mitch McConnell,” Moore tweeted on Monday. “He has failed conservatives and must be replaced. #DrainTheSwamp.”

Democrat Doug Jones, a former US attorney, was running in a deeply conservative state was once thought impossible for democrats to win. The allegations against Moore has given Democrats hope in a state they once thought unwinnable.

Moore has not responded to the RNC cutting ties with his campaign.
